In my opinion, they need to choose some other actress for Ursula. For me the Ursula needs to have a deeper voice to be more villain.

My only complaint was the hair color. I think it’s lazy that they didn’t go with a brighter red. They could’ve did something similar to when Rihanna had her hair a bright red at some point I don’t wanna hear any fucking excuses for it to be realistic I mean one of her sisters had freaking pink hair not to mention this is a movie about mythological creatures.

I wasn't fond of the live action dress and never could pint point why. Seeing the real color side by side with the blue dress is an eye opener. I absolute love the real color, and I love how much more similar it is to the animated one. The butterflies that initially didn't like now compliment the dress perfectly. The blue dress is ok but it's just look so saturated it feels like a visual sore thumb. I understand why they make it blue but I would love to see the original one, much more on the silver side, like the original animated silver dress. Anyways, I'll take saturated blue over whatever Emma Watson was wearing in the Beauty and The Beast.

I enjoy Pocahontas since I was a kid but I am not native American but I can understand the tragedy of Pocahontas but Disney could always reimagine a new native American princess because they can come up with many ideas they could talk to native Americans and explain how they should tell their story and not in a fantasy weigh when it's about their history 0:01

why can't we give the only representation in hollywood that greeks have to greeks, seriously, i'm not mad at colour blind casting in some movies, like the little mermaid, it takes place in a fantasy kingdom and ariel is a fish, great, but in hercules, this movie is the penicle of greek culture, hercules looks way too celtic to be greek, although it's accurate because greek gods were portraid with light features in mythology, but why give the role of hercules to a british or african man, give it to a greek, you can't just say all greeks look white like a nordic european, they have a distinct genetic make up, they have tenned skin, dark hair and eyes, not all but most of us, like seriously this is the only cartoon for greeks in hollywood and you're going to give it to someone who doesn't even know anything about grece, it's like putting a latina for mulan, it doesnt change the story but the culture in both movies is necessary for the story, giving it even to some one who looks grekk but isn't is cultural appropriation

Halle had this red hair at the premier that would've been perfect! Also, the seashell bras were dropped bc it didn't work out and looked super weird on all the mermaid actors, but the color of her top should've been changed for sure bc the green, purple, and red were intentional and iconic colors. I think when live action is done, they fall into a world that is realism, but they shouldn't have! Especially since it was about a mermaid. 😭

In my opinion, Lily looked great in the blue! The original color made her look too pale!

As a Black girl, although I loved the movie and the outfits they put her in, I do still wish that they had given her more options and a more diverse wardrobe like what the Black Disney Princess before her, Tiana, wore. They didn't have to replicate the same exact identical dresses that the white Ariel wore, but they still could've given her *something.* Come up with something new, perhaps? They didn't have to go so basic. Furthermore, and this is a minor pet peeve, but I didn't like how they had the scarf cover Ariel's ears. It looked very awkward and uncomfortable, at least to me, and I wish that they had tucked it behind her ears and let the ears poke out instead. But that's a minor thing. And yes, the colors were washed out while underwater, but it did look much better when she reached the surface and became human(I wanna say that it was the purpose/to show symbolism or whatever, but considering the poor marketing choice of colors, I have doubts.), so at least that's something. All in all, I do still like the movie and think it was fantastic, especially with the new songs and Caribbean setting, which I loved as a Caribbean girlie, and would def watch again with friends/family! But no movie is above criticism. And like all movies, this one def had room for improvements. Doesn't mean, however, that we can't still support Halle, and love her performance in this movie! 🥰

what I liked about the live-action in the little mermaid, is that they changed the location to the Caribbean to fit their casting choice. I thought that was cool. Also, her skin color didn't bother me, what bothered me was that everything she got help for in the cartoon, they had her do herself in the live action. I feel like they are teaching young girls its not ok to ask for help. in the cartoon, Flounder and Sebastian drag her to the surface because without her tail she doesn't know how to swim, Scuttle attacks Ursula and pulls the necklace off her neck releasing ariel's voice, and Eric is the one who killed Ursula. As for Peter Pan, the casting didn't bother, changing tink's personality, having girls in the lost boys, those things bothered me. in the OG, Peter was not discriminatory towards girls, he tells Wendy that the reason there are no girls is because girls are too smart to fall out of their prams. there was no need to have lost girls, as a child it never bothered me that there were no girls in neverland beside mermaids and Wendy and Tigerlily. so its not color blind casting that bothers me, its making huge changed to the source material. My issue with Rachel is what she has said about Snow White, not the fact that she is Latina

It blows my mind seeing Colleen Atwood’s résumé and see what we ended up with in the movie. She designed costumes for both live-action Alice In Wonderland movies, Memoirs Of A Geisha, Chicago, Snow White & The Huntsman (and its sequel), Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children…the list goes on. There’s literally no reason for the lackluster, boring costumes we got in this film. Disney’s become so impeccably lazy

I knew it was gonna suck when they cast that Cringey Wednesday "Actress".

All the disney live actions were trash but this one seemed to get the worst treatment and it’s sad. I really wanted to like the little mermaid. Why did they wash out the beautiful colour? Mermaids are supposed to be all about bright colours and pastels! But it’s all dark and merky. It’s just sad. It feels almost like the writers at disney suck because they are l brats whose rich parents paying someone under the table to let them write disney films and they are now destroying the company because of it. It makes zero sense from a fan perspective so something must be going on!

I feel like I at one point heard that the reason why Disney keeps making Cinderella's dress more blue rather than trying to return to the more silver roots of the dress, is that the silver version looks a lot like a wedding dress. And modern day Disney isn't really trying to have their princess line scream Bride, even if a number of the Disney Princesses end their stories as brides. Along with the fact that they want to sell dress up dresses, and the vast majority of parents aren't going to buy their little girls silvery white dresses that they'll inevitably horribly stain in like three days at most, with no innate color of it's own to hide/disguise the staining. More colorful dresses hide grass stains better than silver/white ones, and they only make fabrics so stain resistant while also being comfortable to wear.

@22:15 Oh natural - like the red lip she wears in the animated version. LOL they just didn't try and they don't know how to style and glam. Professional mermaids wear body glitter but a Disney mermaid has to be natural - whatever that means, being that they are not real to begin with.

I’m sorry but I love the blue that they changed the dress to, it makes it feel more magical, it also helps her stand out rather than blend in, if I had to choose between the two I would choose the deep bright blue that they went with.

@12:35 ESPECIALLY being a skin type of the Tropics, they washed her out. WTF?! Her skin complements bright colors so well. It's crazy they went so "beige Becky" with costume and hair color.
